Bartholomeus VI. Welser

Bartholomew VI. Welser the younger (* October 26, 1512, † probably on 17 May 1546 near present-day Cruz de Tara Tara at Quibor, Venezuela ) was an Augsburg patrician.

The son of Bartholomew Welser of the older mid 1540 went to Venezuela, to join an expedition of the local governor George Hohermuth of Speyer in search of the legendary land of gold, El Dorado. Since Hohermuth was however died of Speyer on his arrival in Coro already at fever, led the General Welsersche captain Philipp von Hutten the train to the interior. On their return to the coast in May 1546 were Hutten and Welser, together with two of her companions Spanish by Juan de Carvajal, who had meanwhile been played by means of forged papers to the governor of Venezuela, murdered. What role should Bartholomew Welser in Venezuela exactly is unclear today. Busy is simply that he held prior to the start of the expedition in August 1541 to the rank of captain, having apparently without previously enjoyed a military training.
