Bartolomé de Medina

Bartolomé de Medina (* 1527/1528 in Medina de Ríoseco, Spain, † December 29, 1580 in Salamanca) was a Spanish Dominican monk and since 1546 professor of theology at Salamanca. As a pupil of Francisco de Vitoria, he was a member of the so-called School of Salamanca and was long regarded as the father of the doctrine of probabilism, a moral-theological concept that is generally allowed, what good reasons, even if it is for a different behavior if possible, even better arguments there. This view, the " good will " and the underlying intention ascribes a key role has been taken mainly by the Jesuits.

His other work is primarily concerned with the Summa Theologiae of his confrere, the Dominican Thomas Aquinas.
