Bart's Preinstalled Environment ( BartPE short ) - in addition to Microsoft Windows PE - another approach, by which a computer can be started via a Windows Live system.

Bart's Preinstalled Environment is developed by its namesake, Bart Lagerweij.

While originally the Microsoft Solution - Windows PE - was aimed to support an automated installation, BartPE is a live system. This is to assist administrators of Windows, damaged Windows installations to repair, recover data, perform virus scans or restore backups in the form of memory dumps (images) on the hard disk.

BartPE is created ( also programmed by Bart Lagerweij ) using the PE Builder program. To create a BartPE original CD of Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 is required. Windows Vista is not supported.

Through plug-ins (eg, Drive Image XML) additional programs can be integrated into BartPE. Trailer BartPE have written a large number of such plug-ins and make them available.

From BartPE various other solutions such as Ultimate Boot CD for Windows ( UBCD ), Reatogo X - PE, BOINCpe, TeutonPE or various versions of PC magazines were derived.
