Basel Connecting Line

The Basel junction line is a railway line in the Swiss city of Basel and connects the German railway station on the right bank of the Rhine to the SBB train station on the left bank. It lies entirely on Swiss territory.

Most of the German long-distance trains on the Rhine Valley Railway run beyond it to Basel SBB and thus use the connection path. Many regional express trains of Deutsche Bahn of Freiburg im Breisgau and S-Bahn SBB GmbH of cell in the meadow valley drive over the connecting train to Basel SBB. Because of the state contract system under these arrangements apply to the connection path, the Swiss tariff system, but also the German Baden -Württemberg- Ticket will be accepted.

History

The railway line was established by Article 4 of the International Treaty of 15 October 1869 concerning the construction and operation of the Gotthard Railway.
