Baselios Thoma Didymos I

Baselios Mar Thoma Didymus I ( born October 29, 1921 in Mavelikara, Pathanamthitta, Kerala ) is emeritus " Catholicos of the East and of the apostolic throne of St. Thomas " of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.

Life

At 17 he became a member of Mount Tabor Monastery in Dayara Pathanapuram. On January 25, 1950, he became a priest on 16 May 1965 monk ( Ramban ) and consecrated bishop on August 24, 1966 ( with the name Thomas Mar Timotheos ). He was bishop of Malabar diocese for 39 years, first as Assistant Bishop, then as Metropolitan. In 1992, Mar Timotheos was elected designated successor of the Catholicos of the East. On 31 October 2005 he was enthroned Orthodox Syrian Church after the resignation for reasons of age of Catholicos Mar Thoma Mathews II Catholicos of the Malankara as new. He is the 7th Catholicos after the establishment of the Indian Catholicosate in 1912 and the 20th Malankara Metropolitan.
