Basil Meeking

John Basil Meeking ( born November 19, 1929 in Ashburton ) is Bishop Emeritus of Christchurch.

Life

The Bishop of Christchurch, Edward Michael Joyce, ordained him priest on 19 July 1953 and was incardinated in the Clergy of the Diocese of Christchurch. John Paul II appointed him on 30 March 1987 Bishop of Christchurch.

The Archbishop of Wellington Thomas Stafford Williams Cardinal donated to him on June 3 of that year, the episcopal ordination; Were co-consecrators Antonio Magnoni, Apostolic Pro- Nuncio to New Zealand and Fiji, and Brian Patrick Ashby, Bishop Emeritus of Christchurch.

From his office he resigned on 15 December 1995.
