Basilian Alepian Order

The Basilian of Aleppo (Latin: Ordo Basilianus Aleppensis Melkitarum ) Order code: BA, as Aleppinische Basilian known, are a Men's Order of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church. The Order is involved in the Byzantine Rite and is headquartered in Jounieh in Lebanon.

History

The Order comes from the long-established community of Basilian which. According to Saint Basil the Great names. They live and act according to the rules, writings and sermons that have been invoked and returns the Great on Basil. The Congregation was founded in Dhour El Shwayr in Lebanon in 1697 by monks from Aleppo. In 1710 the Order received his Papal approbation of Pope Clement XI. ( 1700-1721 ). 1740, the female branch of the Basilian Sisters of Aleppo was founded. Superior General of the Order is currently Archimandrite Seraphim Antoun Kassabji.

The Order provided several prominent bishops within the Melkite Greek Catholic Church. Currently, there are a cardinal and three bishops, of which a bishop emeritus. As of 2011, the religious community is one of 24 priests, 34 monks and serves 12 parishes.
