Basilica of St. Nicholas, Amsterdam

The Sint- Nicolaasbasiliek ( Nicholas Basilica ) is a Roman Catholic church in the center of Amsterdam.

History

The architect Adrianus Bleijs (1842-1912) designed the church based on a combination of several historicist styles, particularly the Neo - Baroque and Neo - Renaissance.

It was built in 1884-1887 and finally inaugurated on 7 February 1887. 1999, the sacred building in the interior was restored. 2012 was elevated to basilica.

Equipment

The organ was built by the organ builder Wilhelm Sauer ( Frankfurt / Oder) and was inaugurated in 1889. The instrument was extensively restored in the 1990s. It has 40 stops on three manuals and pedal. The first and second keyboard and the pedal equipped with Barker machines.
