Adrianus Bleijs

Adrianus Cyriacus Bleijs ( born March 29, 1842 in Hoorn, † January 12, 1912 in Kerkdriel ) was a Dutch architect.

Life

Adrianus Bleijs was born the son of a carpenter. After training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, he came into the service of Pierre Cuypers. After a dispute with Cuypers he opened in his hometown of Hoorn his own architectural office.

Bleijs was one of the few Catholic architects of his time, who not only built in neo-gothic style. He also designed churches in neo-Romanesque and neo-renaissance style. In addition to churches he designed, among other things, two Amsterdam hospitals.

In 1903 he gave up his work as an architect in favor of a career as an employee in 's- Hertogenbosch. He died in Kerkdriel, where he was buried.
