Baskatong Reservoir

The Réservoir Baskatong is an artificial lake in the Canadian province of Québec.

It was created in 1927 after the completion of the dam Barrage Mercier.

The reservoir has many side arms and islands; its area is 329 km ². (other indication: 413 km ², most likely 413 km ² the area with islands and 329 km ² without the islands. ) Since 2007, the hydroelectric plant Mercier uses the slope of the dam, with five turbines generate a power of 55 MW at a drop height of 18 meters. The dam mainly serves to regulate the amount of water downstream, where more substantially larger hydropower plants are located.

Main tributary of the reservoir is the Rivière Gatineau. Other noteworthy tributaries are:

  • Rivière Gens de Terre, coming from Réservoir Cabonga
  • Rivière Notawassi
  • Rivière d' Argent

The Réservoir Baskatong is on several short forest roads that branch off from Route 117, accessible. It is located about 200 km north of Ottawa and about 290 km north-west of Montreal.

The reservoir is a popular fishing spot. There are more than 20 outfitters along its banks. Food fish in the lake are walleye, pike, lake trout American, Coregonus and the internal shape of Atlantic salmon.
