Bass saxophone

The bass saxophone or bass saxophone is a saxophone 's third- lowest position. Mood it is in B, rare in C. the bass saxophone are yet deeper (also called Tubax ) and the Subkontrabasssaxophon.

As a soloist, this instrument is rarely used. In typical saxophone section of a big band it does not happen; the deepest sax here is the baritone saxophone. The bass saxophone took over at the New Orleans Jazz often the bass role (such as Adrian Rollini or Coleman Hawkins in " Hop Off " 1927).

An excellent position has the instrument in the saxophone orchestra, where it is used most often today (eg, Rascher Saxophone Orchestra). But in jazz, it is sometimes use (eg by Peter Brötzmann, Colin Stetson, at Deep scrap, a quartet of four bass saxophones, or with Jan Garbarek album Afric Pepperbird of 1970).

Compass: As1 - e1. With the so-called " Overtones " (see overtones ), however, can also be played in much higher elevations.
