Blue Gascony Basset

34 to 38 cm

The Basset Bleu de Gascogne is one of the FCI (No. 35, Gr. 6, sec 1.3) recognized French breed.

Origin and History

The namesake of Basset bleu de Gascogne is the province of Gascony in southwestern France. For a long time this type of dog was bred here. The French Revolution survived the race in three sizes: Grand Chien, Briquet and Basset. Around 1910, Monsieur Bourbon this breed adopted and saved them from disappearing. To stabilize he crossed the remains of Bassets Saintongeois with Grands Bleus. The present appearance, today's size was achieved by targeted selection. Lovers will appreciate the gentle, quiet way, the conscientious work when hunting hare and rabbit, the color and the track volume ( ringing ).

Description

A Basset bleu de Gascogne should not be too difficult right corpulent, about 38 cm tall. The hair is short and medium thick and dense. Contrasting the Basset bleu de Gascogne should be completely spotted black and white. This gives it a slate blue, with or without more or less extended black patches. The ears are thin, folded and end pointed, laid forward they should reach beyond the tip of the nose also. The Basset Bleu de Gascogne is a hunting dog for small game. It is used both for the individual as well as hunting in a pack.
