Bassila

Department

Bassila is a town and commune in the department of la Donga in the West African country of Benin.

History

The municipality has an area of 120 square kilometers and in 2006 had a population of 81 745 people. The highway passes through the city rnie 3 Bassila on the border with Togo, therefore the majority of the population of Togolese origin. To Bassila include (as of 2012) 30 villages. The city has since 2005 been twinned with the town of Sulzbach, Saarland.

Sports

The Fédération de Football Béninoise operates since 2011 in the village of the Bassila Foot Academie and forms mainly young people from poor backgrounds in soccer.
