Bataclan (theatre)

The Bataclan (originally Ba -ta- clan) is a Parisian entertainment establishment and concert hall in the XI. Arrondissement formerly orientalizing striking architecture. It was built in 1864-65 by the architect Charles Duval. Its name refers to the eponymous operetta by Jacques Offenbach (Ba - ta -clan ).

History

The Bataclan began as a café -concert in the style of chinoiserie. Cafe and theaters were located on the ground floor and a dance hall upstairs. The decor included according to contemporary reports, among other winged dragons, lanterns, flags, the curtain was designed as a huge fan. Two cascades, one blue, one yellow, the two major rivers in China should symbolize.

In the Bataclan vaudeville comedies of Scribe, Bayard, Mélesville, and Dumersan were listed, but also given concerts.

The establishment opened its doors on February 3, 1865, conducted by André- Martin Paris and was taken over in 1892 by singer Paul. After various vicissitudes around the turn of the century there were around 1910 back in fashion - thanks to a major renovation, and a revue program, especially José de Berys designed. In Bataclan Aristide Bruant and Buffalo Bill appeared, Maurice Chevalier celebrated its start here. A South American tour the Bataclan troupe but was a financial disaster.

In 1926 the building was sold and converted to cinema, from 1932 it was sound film Cinema. 1933, the Bataclan was severely damaged by fire ( This was particularly a portion of the balcony). Partial destruction also resulted in the conversion of 1950 for reasons of adaptation to new safety regulations. In 1969 the theater was closed, and in 1983 the establishment under André Engel was back to the " Salle de spectacle ".

Today at the Bataclan well as rock and pop concerts, and other musical and theatrical "events". On January 29, 1972 was here the first joint stage appearance by Lou Reed, John Cale and Nico after the dissolution of The Velvet Underground instead. The recording was for decades only under the hand available as a bootleg, until finally in 2004 an official CD ( " Le Bataclan '72 " ) was released.

The hall capacity is 1498 seats at concerts. The facade of the building was designed in the last renovation in 2005, the original colors on the characteristic pagoda roof but was waived.
