Batesböckchen ( Neotragus batesi )

The Batesböckchen ( Neotragus batesi ) is a dwarf antelope, which is common in the rain forests of Central Africa. The name honors the American zoologist George Latimer Bates ( 1863-1940 ).

The Batesböckchen sees the Kleinstböckchen very similar, with a shoulder height of 30 cm and a weight of 3 kg but larger. In addition, the tail underside is black instead of white. The horns are about 5 cm long and smooth.

The males are territorial loners. Females also tend to individualism, but are sometimes found in small groups.
