Moschusböckchen ( Neotragus moschatus )

Neotragus is a genus of antelopes occurring in Africa with three species.

Features

Neotragus hare species are large, graceful antelopes squat, reach the head-body length 38-62 cm and 24-41 cm high. They have a weight from 1.5 to 6 kg. Their fur is brown, the ventral surface whitish. The back profile is more or less rounded, long legs thin, pointed hooves, Nebenhufe mostly missing. Only the males have small, pointed horns. The ears are relatively short, naked nose leather. Front eye and interdigital glands are present, the inguinal glands are absent. The females have four teats.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Neotragus includes three types:

  • (Neotragus pygmaeus )
  • Batesböckchen ( Neotragus batesi )
  • Moschusböckchen ( Neotragus moschatus )

Micro and Batesböckchen live in the west or central African rainforest, the Moschusböckchen comes in heavily vegetated areas of the dry savannas along the east coast of Africa before.
