Baugy, Saône-et-Loire

Baugy is a commune of 525 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire in the Burgundy region. It belongs to the district Charolles and Canton Marcigny.

Geography

Baugy is located on the Loire in the landscape brionnais, 87 kilometers north- west of Lyon and 29 kilometers north of Roanne. Neighboring communities of Baugy are Bourg -le- Comte in the West, Anzy -le- Duc in the east, the cantonal capital Marcigny in the south and Chambilly in the southwest. History

Baugy was first mentioned in the 6th century as Balbiacensis main area in the pagus of the same name. The result is the local name from the Gallo- Roman name Balbius. [Note 1] 679 Baugy was as Balbiago ultra Ligerim ( beyond the Loire ' ) mentioned. In the year 756, it appeared as a villa on Balgiaco in a document relating to a land exchange between the abbeys Perrecy and Saint -Martin d' Autun. In the 9th century the village belonged to the county of Autun. As of 1088, the parish belonged partly to the priory Marcigny, thus following the Cluniac reform. The remaining part belonged to the barony of Semur and later to the castle Seigneurie Arcy in Vindecy.

Attractions
