Semur-en-Brionnais

Semur -en- brionnais is a commune with 624 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire in the region of Bourgogne (Burgundy ). It belongs to the district Charolles and is capital of the canton of the same name. It is classified as one of the plus beaux villages de France ( most beautiful villages in France ).

Geography

The place is part of the area brionnais and is located on a small hill surrounded by orchards and pastures 6 km east of the Loire at about the level of Marcigny. The city of Macon is located in the east at a distance of around 50 km ( straight line ).

Attractions

  • The Romanesque church of Saint -Hilaire. It is one of the special gems of the region.
  • The ruins of the keep, to have been born in the St. Hugo Abbot of Cluny and builder of the basilica of Paray -le- Monial, directly in the center.
