Bayer is an impact crater in the southwestern quadrant of the moon. It is located east of the elongated crater Schiller and north-northeast of rust. Further to the south extends the crater Clavius Large.

The rim of Bayer is easily eroded, but clearly recognizable. The inner wall has a terrace, while the exterior walls were strongly deformed by adjacent impacts. The most striking of these craters is ' Schiller H', which follows in the form of a mountain range to the north-western edge. The crater floor is relatively flat and without central collection. Near the western Kraterwandung he has a small, clearly visible crater. Its wall is pierced on the north side.
