Beacons of ancestorship is the ninth studio album by the Chicago instrumental band Tortoise. It was released on 23 June 2009.
Style and reception
On " Beacons of ancestorship " the five band members are continuing the well known from the previous albums, genre mixing, without them to new influences to expand (for example punk in the title Yinxianghechengqi ). The album is characterized by recurring stylistic breaks in the middle of a scene. So Sarah Schaefer wrote on motor.de:
Can " appeals to you because only with enumerations: electro, jazz, dub, noise, rock, post-rock; Tortoise are all this and somehow not again (...). "
The weblog Drowned in Sound called " Beacons of ancestorship " ausscherende a cascade of surprises and missed eight of 10 points, and the Jazz All About Jazz magazine was full of praise for the album.
Hit parade success
In the U.S. Billboard Charts, " Beacons of ancestorship " debuted on July 11, 2009, at No. 149 and stayed there for one week.
