Beagle Aircraft

Beagle Aircraft Limited was a British manufacturer of light propeller aircraft with plants in Rearsby ( Leicestershire ) and Shoreham- by-Sea ( Sussex ).

History

The company was formed in 1960 by merging the aircraft design bureaus of the Pressed Steel Company with the aircraft manufacturers Auster Aircraft Company in Rearsby and FG Miles Limited in Shoreham to British Executive & General Aviation Limited, short BEAGLE.

At the beginning, the three parts of the business operated independently of each other, the two manufacturing plants were performed as Beagle - Auster Limited and as Beagle -Miles Limited. It was not until 1962 they formed together the Beagle Aircraft Limited.

When Pressed Steel became part of the British Motor Corporation, the company withdrew from the aircraft. On December 12, 1966 Beagle was sold for one million pounds sterling to the state, but had to be made in 1969 because of continuing financial problems in receivership. Since there was no buyer for the troubled company, it was resolved in 1970.
