The Bear Glacier Provincial Park is a 542 hectare provincial park in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The tongue of the Bear Glacier can be seen midway between Meziadin Junction and Stewart from Highway 37A.

Plant

Until the 1940s the glaciers filled in the entire Pass area, but since then he pulls back. So the Strohn Lake was formed. Between 1958 and 1962, the lake emptied through a tunnel under the glacier five times. 1967 melting of glaciers, damming the lake so low that the lake could drain away.

In the park is a protected area category III ( Natural Monument ).

History

The park was created by the Nisga'a Treaty, Appendix G-3 on 11 May 2000. The Nisga'a have their traditional homeland in the area.

Flora and Fauna

Within the ecosystem of British Columbia, the area in which the park is mainly the Wet Very Cold subzone of the Engelmann Spruce Subalpine assigned Fir zone.

Trivia

The glacier is in a scene in the movie Insomnia - Sleepless seen with Al Pacino.
