Mountains in the Beartooth Mountains

The Beartooth Mountains are located in southern Montana and northwestern Wyoming ( USA) and are part of the 900,000 acre ( 3800 km ²) Absaroka - Beartooth Wilderness. Granite Peak is the highest mountain and with 3904 m at the same time the highest point in the state of Montana. The mountains are not far northeast of Yellowstone National Park and is part of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. Through the mountains runs the Beartooth Highway (U.S. 212) with the highest elevation on Beartooth Pass at 3345 m. The name of the mountain range is attributed to a survey in the relief of the mountain chain that looks like a bear tooth.
