Beat Happening

Beat Happening is an American indie rock band that was formed in 1982 in Olympia, Washington. Beat Happening was one of the first American representative of the DIY movement in the post-punk music and had great influence on other musicians, like Kurt Cobain.

History

The members of the band met while in college know and launched in 1983 with the first recordings, which they released on cassette. The band used in rejection of commercial rock music a deliberately minimalist style and took up their plates with the simplest means. The band members took turns with guitar, drums and vocals. In 1985 the first album, which was produced by Greg Sage, the lead singer of the punk band Wipers. Internationally known the band was but only with the second LP Jamboree ( 1988), as the third LP Black Candy (1989 ) was distributed by the British independent label Rough Trade. The albums Dreamy (1991) and You Turn Me On (1992 ) published in collaboration with the Sub Pop label, which also appeared the first Nirvana album.

Calvin Johnson 1982 founded the indie rock label K Records, which released independent bands from all over the world and also appeared on the all - Beat Happening albums. As he focused early 90s more and more on his activities as a label boss and musical side projects, the band rested activities for several years, without that Beat Happening officially disbanded. In 2000, the band released the single Gone Fishing.
