Beat Richner

Beat Richner ( born March 13, 1947 in Zurich ) is a Swiss pediatrician and musician who was best known for the development of children's hospitals in Cambodia. He he originates in the Aargau tube and into the city of Zurich.

Life

After graduating from medical school in 1973, Beat Richner specialized in pediatrics at Children's Hospital Zurich. 1974/75 sent him to the Swiss Red Cross to the Kantha Bopha Children's Hospital to Cambodia. When the Khmer Rouge took power, Richner broke from his residence and took his earlier work at the University Children's Hospital Zurich again. In 1980 he opened his own practice in Zurich. He also developed the role of music and clowns Beatocello occurs so on in German-speaking Switzerland and abroad. To illustrate his program and his musical and poetic stories he published mainly children's books with simple stick figures.

Work

In December 1991, it asked the Cambodian government, the Children's Hospital Kantha Bopha Phnom Penh, which had been destroyed during the reign of the Khmer Rouge, to rebuild and to lead. In March 1992 he founded in Zurich, the foundation for Cambodian- Swiss partnership in pediatrics, now called the Foundation Children's Hospital Kantha Bopha, Dr. Beat Richner. He then traveled to Phnom Penh to begin the reconstruction work. In November 1992, the hospital could (known as Kantha Bopha I today ) start operating under Richner's line again. In the following years it was constantly expanded and adapted to the urgent needs; also four other hospitals were still erected: three in Phnom Penh and one in Siem Reap. In 20 years from 1992 to 2012 around 12 million children have been treated and hospitalized one million children; the five hospitals treating 85-90 % of the sick children in the country.
