Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild

Béatrice de Rothschild ( * 1864 in Paris, † 1934 in Davos ) was a daughter of the French banker Alphonse de Rothschild.

Life

Béatrice was born as the youngest of three children of French banker Alphonse de Rothschild and his wife Leonora de Rothschild in 1864 in Paris. She married in 1883 the Russian banker Maurice Ephrussi. After his father's death in 1905, she bought a seven -acre plot of land in Saint -Jean- Cap- Ferrat on the Cote d' Azur.

The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

From 1907 to 1912 she built an imposing villa in Italian Renaissance style. Béatrice de Rothschild personally supervised the construction work, which it should have no less than twelve architects driven to despair. From here you have access to the various rooms of the house, which are equipped with exquisite ornate furniture from the 18th century.

Béatrice de Rothschild died in 1934 in Davos. The villa she bequeathed to the Académie des Beaux -Arts of the Institut de France. The villa, which was also the scene of the James Bond film Never Say Never Again (1983 ), is open to the public and can be visited.
