Beau-Rivage Geneva

The Beau -Rivage is a luxury hotel in Geneva and is located on the Quai du Mont Blanc, on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Location

It is the oldest hotel in Geneva, which is in private hands. It was founded in 1865 by Jean -Jacques Mayer and is now run by his great-grandson Jacques Mayer. The Beau -Rivage has 73 guest rooms and 18 suites. The kitchen can prepare meals for up to 1200 people. The Beau- Rivage were many prominent figures such as the Emperor of Japan and the Dalai Lama as a guest. Sotheby's held here occasionally auctions.

In the hotel deceased individuals

The Austrian Empress Elisabeth ( Sisi ) spent the last night of her life at the Hotel Beau -Rivage (now Suite 119/120 ). She reached Geneva on September 9, 1898 and resided incognito as Countess of Hohenems. On September 10, 1898, she wanted to continue his journey to Caux, but was stabbed on the way from the hotel to the ship by the anarchist Luigi Lucheni. As you noticed on the ship the injuries, she was taken back to the hotel, where she succumbed to her injuries the same day.

On October 11, 1987 Barschel, who was nine days earlier resigned as part of the Barschel affair as Prime Minister of Schleswig -Holstein, found dead in the bathtub in room 317. The magazine Stern published a photo of the situation on its front page.
