Beauce, Quebec

The Beauce is a region in the province of Quebec in Canada. It extends from Lac Mégantic the Chaudière river up to its confluence with the St. Lawrence River about 15 kilometers south of the provincial capital of Quebec. The Beauce is part of the larger Chaudière - Appalaches administrative region, known for its maple syrup, which is produced there throughout the spring. The region is in turn composed of the regional county municipalities of La Nouvelle- Beauce, Beauce and Robert - Cliche Sartigan.

Geography

The region takes its name from the Beauce in central France. She has no clearly defined boundaries, as it is rather to be regarded as political landscape. However, it is defined by the border of the U.S. state of Maine to the south and by the St. Lawrence River in the north.

Economy

The Beauce is dominated landscape and found a long time, no or very little industry before. In the 20th century, the Beauce, however, has evolved considerably. The Canam Group is a large employer and builds Stahlkonstuktionen for bridges and stadiums. It has its headquarters in Saint- Gedeon. The candy factory Vachon was also founded in the Beauce and its headquarters are still in Sainte -Marie.

Sports

Since 1986, the Tour de Beauce is performed annually, a stage race in road cycling.
