Under the impression of the Lebanese civil war, which broke out in 1975, he composed 1980 to 1985, a Lebanon - trilogy: the orchestral works Les ruines de Beyrouth and Le Lebanon in Flames as well as the Requiem Aux libanais martyrs de la guerre. Since 1987, El- Khoury has French citizenship.
