Bedford Institute of Oceanography

The Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO ) is a large Canadian Oceanographic Institute in Dartmouth in the Halifax Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia. The research facility which is part of the administration of the Federation, was founded in 1962.

It is Canada's first and currently the largest federal research institute for oceanography. The designation is the Bedford Basin, a bay north of the port of Halifax, owed. The site covers an area of ​​160,000 m²; a large part of it was formerly operated by the Canadian Navy. BIO consists of a variety of buildings, docks and piers of the Coast Guard and the Canadian Forces Maritime Command ( naval forces ).
