BeerTender

Perfect Draft is the trade name for a combined 2005 introduced draft beer cooling and dispensing system.

Precursor

Before development of PerfectDraft there were different systems with which you could tap into draft beer in the private sector. The best known was the " 5-liter party box ", from which at first, later with the help of gravity and a built-in spigot nipple plastic was found in the beer are sold separately reusable, air operated pumps or carbon dioxide cartridges taps. In practice, these doses were inadequate in most cases. The reason was mainly in the plain constructed to taps, but also in the difficult for laymen dosage of pressure In the later, usable without accessories variants, the beer was missing pressure compensation and lack of cooling within several hours stale.

Market Strategic Thoughts

As with other system cooperation between devices and consumer goods manufacturers (example: Senseo) was looking for a way to address the global sales decline by at least supports or enhances the market share of the cooperation partner. This is done as in the aforementioned example, in the case of coffee of PerfectDraft by using a patented system, so that it can not offer any competitor usable barrels.

Design and operation

The power take-off device is a combination of tap and cooling unit. The optical design is vaguely reminiscent of a fully automatic coffee machines. In the back of the cooling jacket is for the barrel Front are a tap and a temperature gauge attached and a recess for the included drip tray, which is loosely inserted and absorbs spilled beer. The barrels are special and patented system barrels with a capacity of six liters. They are available in Germany only in reusable system.

Differences to other PTO systems

In contrast to usual in the catering dispense systems and, unlike the party above doses is located inside the metal barrels a pickled plastic bag in which there is the beer. When drawing the compressor compressed air contained in the device supports in the barrel that pushes the bag together and so the beer. Thus, the use of carbon dioxide cartridges is both unnecessary, on the other hand, the beer does not come with the introduced air into contact, which would have a negative impact on durability and taste of the beer. According to the manufacturer, the holding beer in a fractured barrel up to 30 days. The principle is based on the wine in the area for some time conventional bag-in - box system, in which a wineskin is housed with tap plastic mostly in a cardboard box.

Manufacturers and developers

The components of this system by the Dutch company Philips. Cooperation partner is the world's largest brewery Inbev group, which so far ( as of 2006) is the exclusive licensee for the distribution of its ales in the system barrels.

Models

The initially marketed HD 3600 was replaced by Phillips in 2007 by two successor models: from its predecessor, the HD 3620 is distinguished by a higher-lying Tap, improved insulation and a durability indicator for the beer. The cost HD 3610 largely corresponds to the HD 3620, but waived on durability, level and temperature display.

Available brands of beer

As of 2008 are available in Germany following beer brands in the Inbev group for the system:

  • Beck's Pils and Beck's Gold

Criticism

Per

The system is easier to use than Leihfässer carbonated bottle. The beer quality is better than in 5-liter party kegs. It has a long service life of a barrel with good quality ( for infrequent drinkers ). The drums must not be stored in the refrigerator, if you have enough time to cool the unit.

Contra

The price is considerably higher than bottled beer or 5 -liter party kegs of the same variety. The cooling is insufficient at high outside temperatures, so that 3 ° C can be achieved only by means of a cooling disc in midsummer. It may take up to 18 hours, until a barrel is ready for use. The cooling unit consumes 40-70 watts almost as much electricity as a commercial table refrigerator. The plant is sometimes very loud during tapping by pressure equalization. In addition, the number of beers is pretty limited.
