Behnsdorf is a municipality in the district of Flechtingen Borde in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geography

Behnsdorf is surrounded by agricultural land in a valley of Flechtinger ridge. While the village is at 130 meters above sea level, is located in close spatial proximity to the 154 meter high mountain Flechtinger one of the highest elevations in the Flechtinger ridge. In the south of Behnsdorf stems from the Allerzufluss wages, which flows through the town to the north. History

The current district Behnsdorf was until the end of 2009 an independent municipality. Since the end of the Thirty Years' War, it was on the dominated of Brandenburg- Prussia area. In the course of the Prussian administrative reform of 1815 Behnsdorf was incorporated into the county Gardelegen and 1910 had 863 inhabitants. By 1939, the population changed only slightly to 831 in April 1945, at the end of the Second World War, the city was first in the conquered territory of the U.S. Army, but was passed on July 1, 1945, the Soviet occupation zone. With the East German government reform of 1952 Behnsdorf came to the circle Haldensleben in the district of Magdeburg. After German reunification in 1990, the village belonged to the state of Saxony- Anhalt and was incorporated into the county flange 1994 in the newly formed Ohrekreis, 2007. In the course of municipal reform of 2008 Behnsdorf joined with other municipalities on 1 January 2010, together with the newly formed community Flechtingen. Last Mayor of Behnsdorf was Hans Christian Walther, who was an honorary capacity and was elected last February 24, 2008, 100 percent of the votes cast.

The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg Kommunalheraldiker Jörg Mantzsch and approved on 7 March 1996 by the regional council of Magdeburg. According territorial modification agreement dated June 23, 2009 § 1, paragraph 7 of the district may continue to use its existing crest.

Culture and sights

On the Behnsdorfer cemetery are the graves of an unknown Soviet prisoners of war, a particularly well-known Polish forced laborer and a French forced laborer and an unknown American airman.
