Béla Réthy

Béla Andreas Réthy ( born December 14, 1956 in Vienna ) is a German sports reporter of Hungarian origin.

Life

Réthy was born in Vienna, after his parents had left their native Hungary because of the Hungarian uprising in 1956 shortly before his birth. Shortly after his birth, the young family moved to São Paulo, where she remained until 1968, before the family returned to the then 12 -year-old Béla Réthy to Europe. Béla Réthy settled with his family in the Rhine -Main area, where he attended a high school in Wiesbaden obtained his Abitur later. He then studied in Mainz journalism, sociology and ethnology. He improved on his pocket money in sport archives of the ZDF and was a freelancer for the editors. Béla Réthy support the initiative as an ambassador respect! No place for racism.

He speaks German, Hungarian, Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.

Career at ZDF

Since 1987 he has been permanently employed as an editor at ZDF. First, he was scheduled for the Motorsport division, he has worked as a live football commentator since 1991. He started in football as assistant to the commentators Rolf Kramer and Marcel Reif.

Réthys first live report primary was a match between the German and Irish U16 in 1991. Worked as a commentator for the Second German Television, he commented on the finals of the European Championship in England in 1996 ( Germany against the Czech Republic ), the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea ( Germany and Brazil ), the 2004 European Championships in Portugal (Portugal against Greece ), the Football World Cup 2010 ( Spain v. Netherlands) and the European Football Championship 2012 ( Spain-Italy ). He was also for many of the transmitted by ZDF games of the World Cup 2006 in Germany. Commentator, including at the German games against Costa Rica, Sweden, Italy and Portugal At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, he commented Hockey Games.

After Réthys reportage of the quarter- final between France and Brazil at the 2006 World Cup, the Süddeutsche Zeitung commented: " Réthy do not want to be immortal, not the new Herbert Zimmermann, he does not want to be awesome, but probably good. He's not a talk show host and [ ... ] but actually a football critic who can not do so quickly drunk himself. " (3 July 2006)

During the 2008 European Réthy had briefly due to a storm -related image is cut, the semi-final play Germany against Turkey in the radio commentary style. Spiegel Online criticized the report: " The failure revealed how little TV people still have to say [ ... ] Béla Réthy had already knitted so as he would kommentatorisch not quite on the ball. "
