Bełchatów

Belchatow [ bɛwxatuf ]? / I ( German Belchatow, 1943-1945 Belchental ) is a town in Poland, in Łódź Voivodeship south of Łódź.

History

The first mention of the place was 1391st The city was chartered Belchatow in 1737. Prussia got the place in 1793 under his rule. 14 years later, the village belonged to the Duchy of Warsaw and in 1815 with the Kingdom of Poland. During the 19th century, the textile industry grew into a major industry, not least because of the proximity to Łódź.

After the re-establishment of the Polish state the place was in 1919 again became Polish, and in 1925 he received his in the meantime lost city right again. The city was occupied during the German invasion of Poland on September 6, 1939 by the Wehrmacht. There a ghetto was established, had to live in the approximately 5,000 Jews.
