Belgian Congo general election, 1960

General elections in the Belgian Congo were held on 22 May 1960 to create a government for the period of independence of the country, which was scheduled for June 30.

The MNC -L, led by Patrice Lumumba, won the most seats, and Lumumba was elected by the National Assembly as Prime Minister, after the after forming a coalition with the Parti Solidaire Africain, the Centre de Regroupment Africain and some other parties.

After the election of the Senate of the Democratic Republic of Congo was elected by members of the District Assembly and the two chambers together then chose the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in this case it was Joseph Kasavubu of the ABAKO.
