History

The Belgian franc was introduced in 1832. It was created following the example of the French franc and has long been coupled in a 1:1 ratio to that, since Belgium was a member of the Latin Monetary Union.

From 1922, Luxembourg was in a monetary union with Belgium ( BLEU ). The Belgian franc was also in Luxembourg as its official currency unit, and Luxembourg francs in Belgium. It was a fixed exchange rate of 1:1.
