Belgian hip hop

The Belgian hip-hop was largely of African descent rappers from the former Belgian colonies of the Congo ( formerly Zaire ), Rwanda and Burundi coined.

One of the first and, to date, by far the most successful Belgian hip- hop acts that actually designed as a house - project project Technotronic was. With the kongolesischstämmigen MC Ya Kid K Technotronic celebrated around 1990 international success with songs like Pump Up the Jam and was influential for the hip-house genre. 1990 Ya Kid K also joined the group Hi- Tek 3, which could be heard on the soundtrack to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The first significant Poprapper from Belgium was Benny B, who used a rather market-oriented sound. The report of the European Music Office in Music in Europe, according to this commercial orientation was one of the reasons that as a reaction soon an underground hip-hop scene was formed.

In the early 1990s, the Brussels Rapcrew De Puta Madre began to rap in French and Spanish. They had success in the underground and are still highly respected in the Belgian hip-hop scene. In the late 1990s the Rwandan hip-hop pioneer drew JC Matata to Belgium and founded a group called Hip-Hop/Reggae/Zouk ZAMZAM.

Also was in the late 1990s in the Walloon south of the country of the French-speaking and rapping Starflam the biggest name in the business. In the Flemish Dutch-speaking north and rapping MCs like ' t Hof van Commerce, Krapoel In Axe, St. Andries MC's and ABN were popular, the rapping in their regional dialects. One of the most promising bands in 2006 seems to be Last Prophecy.
