Belgian horse

The Brabant (also Belgian Draft Horse, Flemings or Flemish horse) is a cold - blood horse breed from the Brabant Belgian breeding area.

Exterior

The powerful workhorses have a shoulder height of about 165 to 173 cm. In the majority, there are red, brown and blue permanent mold, but there are also brown, Dark brown, dun and mold before.

The Brabant has a well-proportioned head on a short, heavy neck with double mane and a strong, long shoulder, and a deep broad chest. The low withers goes into a short, wide, mostly been saddled with spinal muscular loin and a broad, long, divided, often sloping croup with excellent muscling. The short to medium long, muscular legs with heavy hangings are often disproportionately on small flat hooves. It reaches a size of 155-177 cm and a weight of 700 to 1200 kg.

Interior

The Brabant is considered to be very quiet and meek. He is one of the strongest driving forces, where he can win over customers with its power even by a very space-consuming step. Furthermore, he is regarded as precocious and durable.

Breeding history

The Brabant can be seen as the most important cold-blooded race, since it was used as a basis for many other very successful cold-blooded animals, such as the Rhenish- German Cold Blood. Its origin is already suspected in the Roman period, which also makes it one of the oldest horse breeds. A studbook was established in 1886.
