Outline of the French Western Alps

The Belle Donne is a 60 km-long, constructed from crystalline rock mountains in eastern France and forms the western foothills of the French Alps. The massif extends from Grenoble to the east and northeast, reaching at its southern edge (15 km from the city ) to 2980 m altitude. It is located in the department of Isère, the northeast side also in the department of Savoie, Isère and directly east of the pre-Alpine Chartreuse Mountains.

The mountains can be geographically assigned nor the Dauphiné Alps, but towering in the south adjacent Pelvoux up to 4000 m, and geologically belongs to the central massif of the Western Alps. In the east it borders on the Vanoise massif ( up to 3800 m ), which leads on to the Mont Blanc Massif beyond the upper Isère.

In the southwest lies the ski resort of Grenoble, Chamrousse.

Summit

The highest peak is at a height of 2977 m is the Grand Pic de Belle Donne. Other high peaks are:
