Bellevue Teatret

The Bellevue Theatre (Danish: Bellevue Teatret ) is a theater in Klampenborg on the northern outskirts of Copenhagen. The Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen designed and built it in the 1930s in the style of functionalism. The opening of the theater, which is on the shore of the Øresund strait, 1936 took place.

Jacobsen began in the early 1930s shortly after the opening of his office at the age of 32 years with his first major project, the Bella Vista settlement on the beach in Klampenborg. He began with a series of two - and three-story apartment buildings that were built in two L-shaped groups 1934-1935 on the coastal road. North of the housing development planned Jacobsen a restaurant and the theater complex of Bellvue Theatre. Built in 1935, the interconnected buildings were completed in 1936. A part of the restaurant was rebuilt a few years later into apartments. To meet the character of a summer theater, Jacobsen designed a roof that could be opened mechanically, so that was an open-air theater. Inside the was built a large mosaic. The walls of the auditorium were lined partly with canvas and bamboo. Then Jacobsen began with the construction of the gas station Skovshoved, which also is located south of the theater on the coast.

Set three years after the opening of the theater in 1939 its operation and was used until 1979 as a cinema. Since the takeover by Jes Koplin both film and theater performances are listed. The ensemble's repertoire is dominated since the reopening of musicals. Since 2003 is the summer ballet an integral part of the program. Approximately 125,000 visitors use the theater per year.
