Belobog

Bieleboh (also Belobog, Bilobog, Belbog, Bialbog, Byelobog, Bielobog, Belun, Bylun ) was the Slavic deity of light and the sun. ( The Slavic word biely refers to the color white).

Sacrifices were offered in the form of cheerful games and banquets Bieleboh.

The memory of Bieleboh lives on in the Belarusian word about Belun. Belun is an old man with a long white beard, white clothes and walking stick. He appears only in the day for returning hikers who got lost in the dark forest on the way. A white Russian proverb says: " It is dark in the forest without Belun ".

Bieleboh is sometimes equated with the God Svetovid.

The name of the mountain Bieleboh near Bautzen ( 499 m) is derived from the deity.
