Belsazar Hacquet

Belshazzar de la Motte Hacquet (also Balthasar or Balthazar Hacquet; * 1739/1740 in Le Conquet, Brittany, † January 10, 1815 in Vienna) was a versatile scientist. His botanical author abbreviation is " Hacq. ".

Life

He studied in Paris, was from 1773 professor of anatomy in Ljubljana, from 1787 Professor of Natural History in Lviv and in 1805 for chemistry and botany in Cracow.

He tried during his time in Laibach the first ascent of Triglav - if he does not also reached the summit itself, but he supported the crew of the first ascent - and is regarded as one of the first mountaineers.
