Ben Loyal

The Ben Loyal (Gaelic: Beinn Laoghail ) is a mountain in the former county of Sutherland in the extreme north of the Scottish mainland, about 10 km south of Tongue. It rises directly from the western shores of the eponymous Loch Loyal, only a few kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean Bay Kyle of Tongue. His reference Berg ( Prominence Parent) is the well located 10 km west Munro Ben Hope.

The Ben Loyal is mainly composed of granite with four rocky peaks that give it its characteristically distinctive look. Despite its rather low altitude, it is considered one of the most picturesque Highland Mountains and is often referred to as the Queen of Scottish Mountains.

Arrival and ascent

Since the North Sutherland does not have rail lines, there is no rail link to Ben Loyal. However, of Tongue of it is achievable and scalable in one day on foot. In addition, the A836 runs a one-lane main road directly between the western shore of Loch Loyal and the eastern slope of the mountain. The climb itself is usually from the north side, starting on a dirt road from the farm Ribigill.
