Benadiri people

The Reer Hamar Benadiri or are an ethnic minority in Somalia, in the cities of Mogadishu, Merka and Baraawe is located predominantly at the Benadirküste.

They are descendants of immigrants who were in the 12th century from Arabia, Persia, and may also come from South Asia. From the Somali majority they differ by a slightly lighter skin color, and so are also Gibil Cad ( " light-skinned " ) called.

Benadiri derives from the Benadirküste, which gets its name from the Persian bandar ( " harbor "). Should be is an old name for Mogadishu, the Persian origin; : Hamar ( Xamar Somali ) Reer Hamar means "people of Mogadishu " or " people of the town ".

Traditionally, the Benadiri in retail and as a tailor and fishermen operate. They are generally wealthier and better educated than the general population, which has also envy and discrimination. As a small and militarily weak group that belongs to any of the major Somali clan, Reer Hamar of the Mogadishu came especially between the fronts of the Hawiye sub-clans, and warlords who fought in the civil war since 1991 in the city.
