Benalmádena Stupa

The Stupa in Benalmádena is 108 feet or 33 meters height of the largest Stupa in Europe. It was inaugurated on 5 October 2003 and was the last project of the Buddhist master, Rinpoche. The stupa is located in Benalmádena, Málaga, in the Andalusian region of southern Spain, on the Costa del Sol.

The stupa was of H.H. Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche, the second most important lama of the Karma Kagyu lineage inaugurated. Also present were Lömpo Sangye Ngodup, Minister of Bhutan, Ole Nydahl and the Mayor of Benalmádena, Enrique Bolin, who was instrumental in the provision of land on which the stupa stands.

, Rinpoche visited Spain for the first time in 1990, when he gave teachings and transmissions in Karma Guen, a Buddhist meditation center in the vicinity of Vélez-Málaga, about 50 km from Benalmádena-Costa Beach. He built his first stupa in Karma Guen in 1994, a symbol of peace and prosperity for Spain., Rinpoche was asked to build a further 16 stupas in Europe before his death in 2003. He obtained Spanish citizenship in 1995 and from then visited the country regularly, where he gave teachings and transmissions.
