Benderloch

Bender hole ( Gaelic: Meudarloch ) is a small village in the north of the Scottish Unitary Authority Argyll and Bute. It is located on the eastern shore of Ardmucknish Bay, a secondary bay of the Firth of Lorne, near the mouth of Loch Etive about nine kilometers northeast of Oban and 41 kilometers south west of Fort William.

Traffic

The village is connected via the A828 which connects the A82 to Oban along the West Coast with the A85 to the motorway network. Previously owned Benderloch its own railway station, which was abandoned in the meantime. The nearest train station is four kilometers south in Connel. This is regularly served by trains on the West Highland Line between Crianlarich and Oban. Three kilometers south of Bender hole is the Oban Airport, which offers daily flights to various Hebridean island.

Attractions

In the vicinity of Bender hole there are three monuments of the highest Scottish monument category A. This includes originating from the 17th century manor house Lochnell House with its vast lands. In this lies with the Lochnell Observatory, the second category -A- building. North of Bender hole is the living tower Barcaldine Castle. It dates from the early 17th century and was once the seat of the Lairds of Barcaldine.
