Bengt Berg (ornithologist)

Bengt Magnus Kristoffer Berg ( born January 9, 1885 in Kalmar, † 31 July 1967 Halltorp, today Commune Kalmar) was a Swedish wildlife photographer and writer.

Life

Bengt 's father Fabian Berg was a teacher in Kalmar. At age 13, discovered his love of the mountain nature. By references of the museum conservator of Gothenburg, Gustav Kihlen, Berg came up with Professor Alexander Koenig in Bonn in contact. From 1909 to 1913 he was Koenigs employees and today is one of the Bengt Berg- bird collection of the most important exhibits of the Alexander Koenig Museum. The University of Bonn gave Berg in 1935 an honorary doctorate.

1910 appeared under the title Stora Sjöfallet ( German: The Seefall ) his first book. From 1912 he photographed with an SLR the birds of his home. Other books of his bird photos appeared, including in 1917 his first highlight "My friend, the plover " ( German edition 1925). So mountain gradually became one of the most famous pioneers of wildlife photography in Europe. In the 1920s he undertook first trips to Africa, and in 1928 he performed with his book "The Last Eagle" an important contribution to saving the endangered eagle in Europe. 1930 appeared to be well successful book "The love story of a wild goose ." In the 1930s he visited Asia, then emerged books on tigers, rhinoceroses and the Himalayas.

On a 1938 acquired by him Well, he laid out a park, the wildlife and nature park Erik Berg. His son Jens Berg took over the estate for Bengt Berg's death in 1967.
