Benigna Marie of Reuss-Ebersdorf

Benigna Reuss Marie to Ebersdorf (* December 15 1695 in Ebersdorf; † July 31, 1751 in Pottiga ) was Countess Reuss von Lobenstein from the line Ebersdorf and a German hymn poet.

Life

Benigna Marie was a daughter of Count Heinrich X. Reuss to Ebersdorf (1662-1711) and Countess Benigna of Solms- Laubach Erdmuthe. She grew up in Ebersdorf and was strictly pietistic upbringing. After the death of her parents she moved to Pottiga.

Here she wrote a number of hymns in the spirit of Zinzendorf, who was married to her younger sister Erdmuthe Dorothea. It refused, however Zinzendorf and the Moravian Church deplored the thereby induced cleavage of the Protestant Church.

She was a close friend of Johann Jacob Moser and died 55 -year-old unmarried in Pottiga.
