Beninese constitutional referendum, 1990

The constitutional referendum in Benin in 1990 was held on 2 December 1990. The proposed new constitution was adopted with a voter turnout of 63 percent of the well 2.000.0000 voters overwhelmingly. The referendum marks the beginning of the transformation of formal Marxist-Leninist single-party system, which reigned in Benin since the seizure of power by Mathieu Kérékou 1972 to a Western-style multi-party system. With the 1991 following presidential and parliamentary elections this transition has been completed.

The voters were asked whether they agreed with the new Constitution, and if so, whether they favor an upper and lower age limit for the post of President in candidates.
