Benjamin Frobisher

Benjamin Frobisher (* 1742 probably in Halifax, England, April † 24 1787 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada ) was a Canadian fur traders.

Frobisher was born as the son of Joseph Frobisher and Rachel Hargrave in England and emigrated to Canada about 1763. Two of his brothers emigrated with him to Canada and all three were on the fur trade and involved its expansion into the north- west.

1770 took the three brothers, with Richard Dobie a successful fur trading expedition that led the Saskatchewan River up to behind Fort Bourbon in the vicinity of the source of the river. More profitable expeditions followed, and in 1779 founded the Frobisher a company of sixteen equity interests in the North West Company.

At the time of Benjamin Frobisher death of northwestern Canada began to be the most important region of the fur trade and the North West Company controlled the trade of the region almost completely.
